Re: Pam's Chocolate Mud Cake - Variations & Questions
OO great! Glad you liked it, mudcakes dont seem to get much of a look in over in the states, maybe you will have to start a revival!
p.s. i substituted the water for orange juice and it makes a lovely orange scented cake!

Ooo thanks for the tip about the orange juice. I think I will definitely have to try some variations on it. Hmm you never know maybe I will start a revival.
My three year old son loves my white cake and usually won't eat my chocolate cake but after I let him sample a piece of the mud cake he wanted more.

Hey guys (or girls in this instance)
Now be gentle cos im a guy but how would this recipie fair as a "mini-mud cake" in say a large muffin tray? I gather cooking time would need to be altered but as someone who has developed a passion for cooking cakes/making cheese (starting now), friends have shown a lot of interest in a "mini mud cake".
thanks in advance

I think you'll find most girls here would say any cake recipe can be turned into muffins or mini cakes for sure! I'm always doing that with mine. I don't know what the rise is like so you may have to experiment with around 3/4 filled tin depends on how hi you want the mini cake!
AND WELCOME! Great to see a guy here! Don't let our girly banter scare you off!

Re: Pam's Chocolate Mud Cake - Variations & Questions
cheers - the better half has some silicone trays that are a large muffin size - I think these would be better than cutting up a cake at a party - and less fights about who got the bigger bit!
Looking forward to finding a good base - then will play with cheery ripe/honeycomb/butterscoth etc "mini-muds"
Im used to "girly banter", im surrounded by them at work

Re: Pam's Chocolate Mud Cake - Variations & Questions
Had only seen this recipe as MrsG had a new posting yesterday - otherwise I won't know what I missed out. Had a bar a dark choc in the cabinet I will definitely try this tomorrow. Been longing for lovely dark mud cake I used to nibble during my HS year in Sydney! Yipee !!

Re: Pam's Chocolate Mud Cake - Variations & Questions
Can someone tell me what temperature the original recipe would convert to with Fahrenheit? I am in the u.s.a.
I am really excited about trying this recipe because I had never even heard of a "mud cake" until I became interested in cake decorating.

From memory 150c converts to 350F. I sure someone will know for sure.

Re: Pam's Chocolate Mud Cake - Variations & Questions
Pam!
Thanks for the recipe and the tips,
Made my second trial last Thursday for a friend's bday. Bake them in muffin tray for 20minutes, (I put the upper burner on the last 5 minutes).
All went well - and the Bday girl was ecstatic - said was one of the best cake she had and they just melted in her mouth, ended up sharing all the cupcakes with the office mates - and forgot to save one for her hubby!

Re: Pam's Chocolate Mud Cake - Variations & Questions
Oh,
I was wondering... can I change the dark choc into white choc and make white mud cake? might have to give it a try soon... (planning to bake this cake for my son's 2nd bday week after next...)

Re: Pam's Chocolate Mud Cake - Variations & Questions
Other than having 50g LESS chocolate and 1 cup ADDITIONAL sugar - sounds about the same
